POSITION: Financial Analyst - Real Estate Investment

LOCATION: Austin, TX

UTIMCO's Real Estate portfolio has a target exposure of 10% of the endowments total assets. The asset class covers investments across property types and geographic markets. The Real Estate team will invest primarily with external managers through long-only strategies focused on public equities and fixed income, long-short alternative investment vehicles, and private investments.

The Analyst will work directly with the Real Estate team and other UTIMCO investment professionals to research, analyze, monitor, and invest within these asset categories, and receive broad exposure to the entire investment process. The responsibilities of a Financial Analyst will include, but are not limited to:

  • Track, monitor, and assist in the selection of money managers
  • Support, track, and monitor all phases of the investment process and investment performance
  • Analyze and support investment objectives, allocation strategies, and investment performance
  • Assist investment staff in negotiating and drafting deal terms with managers
  • Conduct asset class research and develop investment thesis

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in finance or accounting preferred.
  • 1+ years of professional real estate investing experience, preferably in investment banking or research; experience in an institutional environment a definite plus.
  • This is a pre-MBA position ideally suited for individuals with strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills are essential to success in this role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of information systems including advanced computer skills in spreadsheets and databases (knowledge of Bloomberg a plus)

Position: Analyst, Private Markets

Location: Austin, TX

The University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) is a 501(c)(3) investment management corporation whose sole purpose is to manage the investment assets under the fiduciary care of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System. Created in March 1996, UTIMCO is the first external investment corporation formed by a public university system. It invests endowment and operating funds in excess of $18 billion, including the Permanent University Fund, the Permanent Health Fund, the Long Term Fund, the General Endowment Fund, the Short Intermediate Term Fund and the Short Term Fund, among other funds. UTIMCO is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors appointed by the UT Board.

The Private Markets investment professionals invest in top-performing buyout, venture capital, real estate, natural resource, and distressed debt funds in the U.S., Europe, and emerging markets and accounts for approximately 22% of the total endowments. In total, the Staff is responsible for the management of UTIMCO's approximately $5.8 billion (total exposure) private equity portfolio, encompassing approximately 104 General Partner relationships and more than 180 funds.

Job Description:

  • Support the Directors and Associates in the oversight of UTIMCO's Private Markets portfolio.
  • Perform portfolio evaluation and analysis for a growing group of external private equity managers.
  • Assist Directors and Associates in meeting with and evaluating existing and new managers.
  • Maintain deal flow pipeline for prospective managers.
  • Support all aspects of the investment review process. Create and present analytical due diligence to the investment team. Help prepare recommendations on new and existing manager commitments.
  • Perform comprehensive industry research and work with internal and external systems to assist in monitoring existing portfolios and assessing new opportunities.
  • Prepare materials and participate in semi-annual portfolio and strategy reviews.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly reports on the Private Markets portfolio performance.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Relationship Management System (Salesforce).
  • Create and maintain slide presentations and regular reporting tools.
  • Support development of detailed written evaluations of potential new investments.
  • Perform internal performance, exposure, and risk reporting on alternative investments.
  • Support the continuing refinement and enhancement of analytical tools and approaches for performance, exposure, and risk reporting on investments.
  • Maintain files and e-file systems for Private Markets staff.
  • Maintain quarterly information on limited partnership interests, including portfolio company information and transaction details.
  • Assist Directors, Associates, and General Counsel with review of legal agreements for investments, including negotiating, drafting, and securing approval of side letter agreements.

Requirements:
