Legal and Compliance Specialist
As a member of UTIMCO’s Legal Department, the Legal and Compliance Specialist will provide legal, compliance, and administrative support to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer and Investment Deal Counsel. The Position reports to General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.
Broad responsibilities include:
- Provide legal support to the legal team
- Serve as the Public Information Coordinator for UTIMCO and administer the open records process
- Administer the compliance program and related activities for UTIMCO’s investment transactions to ensure compliance with investment policies, applicable laws and regulations, and other policies
- Perform other compliance duties, including conflicts of interest checks, monitoring of employee personal trading, and management of the process for the annual disclosure statements for outside financial advisors and service providers
- Miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have either a Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in paralegal studies, and have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a law firm, corporate legal department or in a regulatory framework and have knowledge of the general regulatory environment related to investments and internal corporate control requirements. A background in investments and/or accounting is preferred. Candidate should have legal research skills, strong organizational skills with ability to work on many tasks concurrently, proven ability to analyze complex materials, advanced proficiency in Word, and strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Candidate should also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
Endowment Hedge Fund Analyst - Marketable Alternative Investments
Job Description:
UTIMCO's Marketable Alternatives program currently has more than $8 billion invested with external hedge fund managers. The Marketable Alternatives Analyst is responsible for assisting the team with quantitative and qualitative analysis and research to help monitor current investments, evaluate potential investment opportunities, and execute on specific projects. Broad responsibilities include:
- Prepare and monitor reports on external hedge fund manager performance, exposures, and holdings
- Assist with and participate in regular reviews of the portfolio, including analysis of the portfolio's performance and risk characteristics
- Perform quantitative analysis on existing and prospective managers, including correlations to indices and existing investments, return regressions, and risk/return statistics
- Assist in the due diligence of prospective managers
- Maintain current knowledge of the hedge fund industry and global capital markets by monitoring current financial publications, as well as leveraging personal contacts with outside research/industry professionals and conducting ad hoc research
- Provide analytical support to senior investment professionals on research projects
- Prepare standard and ad hoc reports and presentations to facilitate communication and transparency to the Board of Directors and external constituents as required

Requirements:
- This is a pre-MBA position ideally suited for individuals with strong financial and analytical skills
- Degree in finance or accounting from a reputable institution with a CPA and/or CFA strongly preferred

- Investment banking, investment research, corporate finance experience a plus

Endowment Hedge Fund Associate - Marketable Alternative Investments
UTIMCO's Marketable Alternatives program currently has more than $8 billion invested with external hedge fund managers. The Marketable Alternatives Associate will work closely with senior members of the UTIMCO investment team and be responsible for monitoring current investments, evaluating potential investment opportunities, and conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis and research.
Broad responsibilities include:
- Oversee portfolio of hedge fund manager relationships (including monitoring individual manager performance and risk on a regular basis, fostering valued relationships with all individual managers, conducting updates to initial due diligence, and conducting periodic on-site visits with key investment and operations personnel)
- Source and assess new investment opportunities by establishing trusted industry contacts, meeting prospective funds, attending relevant industry events, performing qualitative and quantitative analysis as required, and maintaining current prospective manager database
- Develop capacity to lead comprehensive due diligence process for evaluating and underwriting prospective mangers (including in-depth analysis of investment strategy, performance and risk, manager strengths and weaknesses, risk management, operations, manager backgrounds, reference checks, evaluation of service providers, assessment of existing investor base, and thorough review of relevant legal documents with input from outside counsel)
- Lead negotiation of investment terms of new and existing managers with outside counsel
- Assist senior Staff with asset allocation decisions and portfolio evaluation, considering available capacity with existing manager relationships and liquidity impact of new additions
- Prepare standard and ad hoc reports and presentations to facilitate communication and transparency to the Board and other external entities as required
- Manage workflow, career development, and deliverables of junior-level team members
- Maintain current knowledge of the hedge fund industry and global capital markets by monitoring financial publications, as well as leveraging personal contacts with industry professionals and conducting ad hoc research
- Communicate effectively and responsibly with UTIMCO staff, and promote a true team atmosphere
- Represent UTIMCO in the marketplace with highest integrity and professionalism
The ideal Marketable Alternative Associate candidate will have an MBA from a leading institution and/or a CFA designation. The Associate should have 3-10 years of relevant experience in finance or investment-related field; experience as an institutional hedge fund investor preferred. Candidate should also have exceptional quantitative skills to evaluate fund and portfolio performance and should be well-versed in financial applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg). Strong, proven communication, organization skills and good attitude are essential.
