Britt Harris has more than 30 years of investment experience leading several of the largest, most successful, and most innovative investment organizations in America. In addition, Mr. Harris is currently a member of the President’s Working Group for Financial Markets and an advisor to the New York Federal Reserve. He is one of only a few people who have worked extensively in both the private and public sectors.
Mr. Harris is currently the President, CEO and CIO at The University of Texas/Texas A&M University Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) which is the largest public endowment in America. Prior to his arrival at UTIMCO, he was the CIO for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), the CEO for Bridgewater Associates and was also the CIO and President for Verizon Investment Management Corporation. Previously Mr. Harris was a managing director for Asea Brown Boveri in Europe. Mr. Harris got his start in his home state of Texas. He has three times been named one of America’s leading pension plan investment chiefs. Mr. Harris has been consistently named one of the top five asset investors in the world. In 2013 he was honored with a lifetime achievement for distinguished service to the financial industry.
Mr. Harris also serves as an executive professor for “Titans of Investing” at his alma mater Texas A&M University and the University of Texas. He has also guest lectured on investments and public policy at Harvard, Princeton, Yale and The University of Texas. In addition, he is a frequent speaker on various spiritual matters and serves on a variety of public and private boards.
Mr. Harris has been married for more than 35 years to his high school sweetheart. He and his wife Julia have four children and live in Austin, Texas.
Rich Hall is the Deputy Chief Investment Officer at the University of Texas/Texas A&M University Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) which is the largest public university endowment in the United States. Rich joined UTIMCO from Harvard Management Company where was a Managing Director and served as the Head of Private Equity and a member of the firm’s Executive and Investment Committees. Prior to Harvard, Rich was the Head of Private Equity and a member of the Management Committee at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Prior to TRS, Rich had mergers & acquisitions related positions in industry and investment banking with Bank of America, Tomkins plc, Dell Ventures and Deutsche Banc Alex Brown. Rich served as an intelligence officer for six years in the U.S. Navy prior to earning his MBA from Northwestern University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard. He has served as a board member and Vice Chairman of the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA).
Joan Moeller is Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer. Joan also serves as UTIMCO’s Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. She has oversight responsibility for the accounting, operations and reporting of the Investment Funds, the corporation’s accounting, information services and security. She has been employed at UTIMCO since its inception of March 1996 and its preceding entity, The University of Texas System Office of Asset Management.
Joan previously worked in public accounting for an international accounting firm. Joan received her BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Susan Chen is a Managing Director overseeing UTIMCO’s investments in two areas—(1) public equities in developed and emerging markets and (2) technology-related venture capital. She is a member of UTIMCO’s Investment Committee and Leadership Team. She also chairs the endowment’s Co-Investment Committee.
Prior to UTIMCO, Susan was a Managing Director at a $5 billion alternative investment firm affiliated with Highbridge Capital, where she was a portfolio manager and analyst for distressed debt, event-driven equity, private debt, and special asset investments. She started her career in investment banking at Merrill Lynch.
Susan earned an MBA and J.D. cum laude from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, respectively, and an A.B. in economics from Harvard College, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Carolina De Onis
Carolina de Onís is a Managing Director and the General Counsel of UTIMCO. She is responsible for all legal and compliance matters and enterprise risk management for UTIMCO and serves on the Leadership Team and Investment Committee.
Prior to joining UTIMCO, Carolina served as General Counsel for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, the sixth largest public pension fund in the United States, for seven years. Carolina’s legal practice includes a strong litigation and regulatory background with extensive experience before both state and federal courts and agencies. She has approximately 25 years of experience on Wall Street and successfully navigated litigation and regulatory issues ensuing from the 2008 financial crisis. She has represented numerous large financial institutions throughout her career, including eight years with Barclays’ investment banking division and six years with Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP, both in New York. She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Sam Sparks, United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas in Austin. She is an accomplished public speaker on a variety of topics, including fiduciary matters, governance, private investment funds, compliance matters, and securities litigation.
Carolina holds a BA in government and a JD, both from the University of Texas at Austin, and is a member of the Texas and New York bars. Carolina is a Fellow of the 2019 class of the Aspen Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
Michael is the Head of Human Resources at UTIMCO and a member of the Leadership Team. He is an industry veteran with extensive experience in management consulting, organization development and talent management.
Prior to joining UTIMCO in 2019 he served as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Harvard Management Company in Boston where he focused on advancing their organization effectiveness and leadership development strategy. As an adjunct professor he taught Talent Management at Harvard. Prior to Harvard Michael was the managing partner at Trans-Form LLC, a management consulting firm for 15 years. Having had the benefit of living and working in Asia and Europe during his consulting career, he understands the importance of diversity and culture. Before Trans-Form LLC Michael served in various executive roles at Coca-Cola, Salomon Brothers, Kraft/Mondelez and Firestone.
Michael earned his MA and BA from Akron University. He is a certified executive coach and a Lean Sigma Black Belt.
J. Russell Kampfe
Russ Kampfe has over 30 years of fixed income market experience and almost 25 years of total return portfolio management experience, he is responsible for fixed income portfolio strategy for UTIMCO’s internal bond portfolios, using econometric, technical and inter-market analysis to formulate views on interest rate movements and sector allocation. Russ also composes the mix of internal and external investment grade fixed income managers and is jointly responsible for oversight of the external managers. He is a member of UTIMCO’s Senior Investment Team as well as the Investment Committee and Leadership Team, primarily providing input on economics and interest rates. Russ has experience trading fixed income, equity, commodity and currency derivatives as well. He has been employed at UTIMCO and its preceding entity, The University of Texas System Office of Asset Management, for over 28 years. Russ received his MBA and BBA from The University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and 1986, and is a past president of the Austin Investment Association.
Edward serves as a Managing Director of Real Returns Investments for UTIMCO where he oversees the endowments’ real estate, natural resources, and infrastructure portfolios. Edward is directly responsible for leading a team dedicated to sourcing and managing new and existing real estate, natural resources, and infrastructure investments on a global basis. In addition, Edward is a member of the Internal Investment Committee and the Leadership Team. Prior to joining UTIMCO, Edward worked at Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) in the Chicago and London offices where he focused on real estate advisory, valuation and transaction services for real estate assets. Edward began his career as a civil engineer working on commercial and residential real estate development projects. Edward received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BS in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Drury Morris is Chief of Staff at UTIMCO and is responsible for executing strategic initiatives and organizational priorities across asset classes and teams and managing all internal and external engagement with UTIMCO’s executive office. Previously, Drury was a Director on UTIMCO’s Hedge Fund team where he assisted in the sourcing, underwriting and monitoring of investments in the Hedge Fund portfolio. Prior to joining UTIMCO in 2010, Drury worked at Morgan Keegan in their Fixed Income Capital Markets group structuring and underwriting bond issues with a focus on issuance in the healthcare and higher education sectors. Drury received a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Rhodes College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He is also a CFA Charterholder and a CAIA Charterholder.
As a Managing Director on UTIMCO’s investment team, Pat is Head of Global Private Equity. He joined UTIMCO after working with EDG Partners as an Advisor. Previously, Pat served as Managing Director at Citadel Investment Group, led healthcare high yield and distressed debt investing as part of AIG Investments, served as a Senior Analyst covering the medical device industry at UBS, and worked in Equities at Credit Suisse First Boston. Dr. Pace began his career as a resident in Otolaryngology (ENT) at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Ryan Ruebsahm serves as Managing Director of UTIMCO’s Hedge Fund team, which invests across three strategies: Directional Hedge Funds, Stable Value Hedge Funds and Private Credit. Since joining in 2005, he has led the sourcing and due diligence of more than 30 hedge fund investments as the portfolio has grown from $3.5 billion to $10 billion. He also serves on UTIMCO’s Leadership Team and Internal Investment Committee. Mr. Ruebsahm began his career in the leveraged finance investment banking group of CIBC World Markets in New York where he completed $5 billion of debt financings across more than 20 transactions and was promoted to Associate. He received his MBA with honors from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin where he served as a portfolio manager on the $13 million MBA Investment Fund, LLC, and his BBA from The University of Texas at Austin where he participated in the Financial Analyst Program.
Scott P.T. Slayton is a Managing Director and the head of Tactical Asset Allocation at UTIMCO, which is the largest public university endowment in the United States. Scott is a Wall Street veteran, with over thirty years of industry experience spanning several major market and economic cycles. Scott joined UTIMCO from Jamison Capital Partners, where he was a Partner, Chief Macro Strategist and Director of Research. Prior to Jamison, Scott was a macro portfolio manager at Tudor Investments, where he managed money throughout the global financial crisis and beyond. Prior to Tudor, Scott worked at Morgan Stanley for fourteen years, where he was a Managing Director and a proprietary trader in the firm’s fixed income, currencies and commodities division (FICC). Scott received his BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Uzi Yoeli is the Managing Director for Risk Management at the University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company (UTIMCO). Uzi joined UTIMCO in 2004, and heads its Risk Management since 2006. Prior to UTIMCO, Uzi worked in high-tech. Between 1987 and 2000 Uzi was with Chip Express, most recently as VP R&D, and has been awarded 15 patents. Before that, he was with Intel in software development (1982-1987). Between 1977 and 1982 Uzi was with the Israeli Defense Forces, and holds the rank of a Major.
Born and raised in Israel, Uzi moved to Austin, Texas in 2000 to pursue a PhD in Finance. The PhD dissertation, titled “Asset Pricing in a Fragile Economy”, presents an innovative economic and financial model with rational agents, that successfully addresses many of the puzzles in the financial literature – e.g., the high equity premium relative to the actual risk, and the high and counter-cyclical volatility of stock prices relative to economic changes. His B.Sc. is in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology.
